In 353, in response to threats from Huan Wen, another army was sent out under the celebrated hermit and conversationalist Yin Hao, but this expedition was betrayed by its Qiang allies. Ten thousand men were slain when Yin Hao fled in panic. At Huan Wen's insistence, Yin Hao was dismissed from office and spent the rest of his life in retirement studying Buddhist scriptures.
